Newcastleton, also known as Copshaw Holm, is located at the southern tip of the Scottish Borders close to the boundaries with Cumbria (to the south) and Dumfries & Galloway (to the west) and fifteen minutes’ drive from Northumberland and the Kielder Forest (to the north east). The village can be approached from junctions of the A7 to the north (Hawick) and south (Canonbie) and, for the adventurous, from the east at Langholm.
The B6357 runs through the village towards Hawick via B6399 and south to Canonbie. So if you are heading to Newcastleton from north, take the A7 to Hawick and then B6399/B6357 for 20 miles. If you are coming from the south take the A7 from Carlisle/M6 to Canonbie and then turn left onto the B6357 for 11 miles.
Newcastleton is laid out in a plan along the main road (North/South Hermitage Street) with three squares. The main square, Douglas Square is at the centre and The Liddesdale Hotel is situated in prime position here on the western side.
